The University of Dar es Salaam invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for immediate employment to fill the following vacant post on contract basis:

Position: Accountant Trainee (1 post):

Qualifications and experience

Possession of Bachelor Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Commerce/ Business Administration majoring in Accountancy or Finance or any relevant field from a recognized Institution. The candidate must possess CPA (T)/ACCA or its equivalent professional qualifications recognized by NBAA with at least four (4) years relevant experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs variety of accounting tasks including receiving and paying out cash and cheques;
  • Maintain fuel and accurate accounts records;
  • Checking the correctness of claims and retirements ensuring that they are supported by appropriate authority/evidences;
  • Custodian of accountable documents;
  • Preparing monthly trial balances and bank reconciliation statements;
  • Maintain debtors and creditors;
  • Prepare financial statements;
  • Check accuracy of payment vouchers;
  • Prepare periodic and and/or annual financial statements of revenue and expenditures;
  • Receives and keeps in proper custody all incoming bills and claims;
  • Maintains primary books of accounts;
  • Prepares payment requisitions;
  • Maintains true and accurate accounts records;
  • Performs any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Salary scale: PGSS 9.1

TERMS OF SERVICE:

Short-term one (1) year fixed term contract. Possible continuation to following fixed terms contracts is subject to satisfactory performance and budget availability.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • All applicants must be Citizens of Tanzania of not more than 45 years of age;
  • Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) having reliable contacts i.e. postal address/post code, e-mail, telephone numbers etc. and should indicate three (3) reputable referees with their reliable contacts;
  • Applicants must attach certified copies of the following certificates:
  • Postgraduate/Degree/Diploma/Certificates;
  • Postgraduate/Degree/Diploma transcripts;
  • Form IV and Form VI National Examination Certificates;
  • Professional Registration and Training Certificates from respective Registration or Regulatory Bodies;
  • Birth certificate;
  • Applicants must attach their recent passport size photo;
  • Applicants employed in the Public Service on permanent and pensionable terms and those who retired/resigned or were terminated from the Public Service for whatever reason should not apply;
  • Certificates from foreign examination bodies for Ordinary or Advanced level education should be verified by The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA);
  • Certificates from Foreign Universities should be verified by TheTanzania Commission for Universities (TCU);
